A bit of background of Estonia:
ESTONIA - Having gained independence in 1918, after being ruled over by it's neigbours for centuries, Estonia fell prey to the Soviet Union after the Second World War. After almost 50 years of occupation, Estonia once again regained it independence in August 20th, 1991, in the midst of the coup and the breakup of the Soviet Empire. Today Estonia, while having a medieval history from ancient times, is a modern nation which has membership in NATO and is part of the European Union. It still has its own currency, the Estonian Kronen.( EEK)
Today, Helena and I went to finish the bustour we didn't finish yesterday on the same ticket.
This tinme we stopped at Erlo's Castle and there was also a museum.
The theme of the museum was" Estonia, a will to be free".
Basically it showed the history of the nation of Estonia and the time of the occupation by the Sovet's communists.
With photos too graphic to describe here, but basically, Hitler was a kindergarten teacher to compare with Stalin.
From there we walked a bit along the road with nice views over the seaa.
When we got back to the old town, we each did our own thing for the afternoon.
I went up the Oleviste church. It is 60 metres to go up tot he platform on concrete steps, so it was a good workout for me.
With views that were well worth the workout.
After that I went to the market square where there were people dressed in the medevil times and doing the dances . There are a lot of tourists here and it is very busy.
Helena and I met up again at the market square , where we had a good as laugh ( you now the kind where I can't stop) and then went to the supermarket for a cheap dinner tonight.
